Women freemasons have been very busy in Filey Bay with the annual Installation of their new Worshipful Master of Lodge Filey Bay No. 361. In attendance were the representative of the Grand Master, Grand Lodge officers and members of the Lodge who Members of the Lodge were delighted to welcome so many fellow Brethren, some travelling great distances to the Installation Ceremony and enjoy the meal that followed.
The dining room was beautifully decorated in red, white and blue to commemorate VE Day and all who attended received a beautiful Peace Lily from the new Worshipful Master.

The new Worshipful Master said when accepting her role "My work for the coming year may not be the best but it will be MY best".

That is what we, as Freemasons always endeavour to be - our very best.

Visitors at Lodge de Lovetot No 299’s recent Installation Ceremony helped the members celebrate their Lodge’s amazing milestone of 50 years since it was consecrated.

The Lodge's origins began with an advertisement in the Worksop Guardian during 1974/75 putting a call out for women who may be interested in becoming Freemasons. Many replies were received including from two ladies who are still members today. Following such a good response Lodge de Lovetot was consecrated on Sunday 31st August 1975 by RW Bro Winifred Prior, the then Deputy Grand Master. Two hundred and thirty women freemasons filled the temple at St Barnabas Masonic Hall in Barnsley to view this momentous occasion and one that would live in the memories of all who attended. The Lodge was named ‘de Lovetot’ which derives from the first lords of the Manor of Worksop.

Members meet at Worksop Masonic Hall five times a year and along with ceremonies enjoy social occasions together, building and strengthening long term friendships with other women freemasons throughout the country and living by the traditional values of life and fundamental principals of Freemasonry - friendship, service, integrity and respect. The annual Installation Ceremony of Lodge Golden Rule No. 1 has been held in The Order of Women Freemasons’ Grand Lodge temple located on Pembridge Gardens, London, the regular meeting place for the Lodge. During an excellent ceremony the new Worshipful Master was installed in the Chair of King Solomon and she will now guide the Lodge during the forthcoming year – welcoming new members, holding degree ceremonies and organising social events.

Lodge Golden Rule No 1 was the first lodge to be consecrated when the Order was formed in 1908. The Founder Members were Rev Dr William and Mrs Hettie Cobb – Rev Dr William Cobb was the Order’s first Grand Master - Horace and Emma Geddes, EC Ryan, John Johns and Millicent Mackenzie.

At the same time 2 other Lodges were consecrated – Lodge Emulation No 2 and Lodge of Unity No 3. All three consecrated in June 1908 are still active and all still meet in the Grand Lodge temple on Pembridge Gardens. The Worshipful Master of The Order of Women Freemasons’ Lodge in Northampton – Lodge Enterprise No 80 – who works on a dementia ward at Berrywood Hospital in Northampton recently overheard the staff saying they would love to hold a garden party for their patients and relatives but had no budget.

To help make a garden party happen she asked for a list of what was needed and sent out an appeal for contributions to the members of her lodge members. She was overwelmed by the response she received, saying “I knew the ladies would help, but never did I expect this! I was literally moved to tears - it was freemasonry at its very best” - the members of the Lodge had donated enough food and drink for two wards to hold afternoon tea parties for their patients and relatives. Thanking the ladies of Lodge Enterprise for enabling the garden parties to happen, staff on the Brookview Ward said:

"A little sunshine and a heartfelt idea brought joy to Brookview Ward, Berrywood Hospital this week. On Brookview, we support people living with moderate to advanced dementia. During a recent community meeting, one of our patients shared how much she missed the social experience of having a drink with friends and expressed a wish to have a party. Inspired by listening to her fond memories, the team discussed how we could recreate that meaningful pastime for her – ‘Making a difference, together’.

One of our valued bank Healthcare Assistants, Heidi Portrey, who is also a member of the Freemasons, was present at the meeting and kindly offered their support. Thanks to their generosity, food and drinks were provided, transforming what began as a simple idea for garden drinks into a memorable celebration for patients, their loved ones, and staff.

The shared food and low-alcohol beverages helped create a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. Patients appeared calm and content, with many smiling as they enjoyed familiar tastes, recalling moments from their past. It was a truly special event that reminded us all of the power of connection, community and the value of shared moments. We are incredibly grateful to the ladies of Lodge Enterprise, Order of Women Freemasons for enabling this to happen."
